Exploring Bartlett's Farm on Nantucket

Whether you are visiting for the day, the weekend, or longer, Bartlett's Farm is a must to stock up on local produce, as well as all your grocery needs. Specifically known for their fresh corn and summer tomatoes, Bartlett's offers a variety of freshly made baked goods and ready to eat meals, snacks, and sandwiches. Looking for a grab and go option to bring along to the beach? Located on the southern side of the island, this family owned and operated farm to table business is perfect option for locals and tourists alike. Be sure to tell them Down the Cape sent you!

Owned and operated since 1843, Bartlett's is the largest and oldest farm on Nantucket. Their mission is to "share their passion for farm fresh food, great groceries, delicious vegetables, and beautiful plants...for the enjoyment of [their] customers while supporting [their] community and sustainability on Nantucket."

Our team was lucky enough to experience the full tour of everything the Farm has to offer from Keegan Bartlett, a seventh generation worker and manager of Bartlett's online sales and promotions division. Keegan shared his family's history as his descendants arrived in Nantucket in the 1800s, to how they keep true to their mission today. Currently, Keegan's grandparents are the official owners, his uncle is the CEO, his aunt is the bookkeeper and works on the finances of the business, and his father and other uncle work the field. Keegan said being able to work alongside his family is one of his favorite parts of his job.

Experiences

Pick Your Own Strawberries

Nothing tastes as sweet as picking your own strawberries in the summertime. A perfect experience for making new family memories, you may fill your bag as much as you wish. Happen to notice the solar panels while you're in the fields picking? Bartlett's is dedicated to pursuing all aspects of environmentally friendly farming.

Theatre Stage

As stated in their mission, Bartlett's is dedicated to supporting their community. With their large theater stage and grassy, green fields they frequently host many charity events, yoga festivals, and theatre experiences right on their front lawn for locals and tourists to enjoy. Planning your trip? Be sure to check out their events calendar before you go!

Playground + Pop Up Shops

Set right outside the market is the playground and a rotating pop-up shop. One of their most popular pop-ups is a Boston boutique for women's clothing and accessories, Bobbles & Lace .

Farm Tours

Bartlett's Farm is rich with life and history. What better way to soak it all in than with one of their farm tours. As you browse through the strawberry and flower fields, their greenhouses and garden center, you will learn facts about their crops and the inner workings of farm life. Our favorite fact was that they have ten employee homes on their property! Full of fragrant flowers, the garden house smells like a secret garden. Bartlett's offers a variety of gardening tools, as well as a large selection of perennials and annuals. Their most popular flower is none other than the hydrangea.

Products + Produce

The Market provides customers with everything they may need and more. With their friendly staff, Bartlett's expanded their product offers due the pandemic. Customers can now not only shop for local produce, but kitchen, toiletry, and beach essentials as well. The Farm Kitchen offers prepared grab and go meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while the bakery provides delicious sweets and treats including Bartlett's beloved cookies and pies. Another great feature of the market was their beer and wine section. The different varieties and organization of it proved to be the "best beer and wine selection on the island" according to Keegan.
